About Mitchell
Mitchell Grace (MCathEd, MMus, ProfCertEd(Positive Education), PGradCertRE, BA/Bed) is Pastoral Dean of Students at St Vincent’s College in Sydney, Australia. His previous role was the Director of Student Life and Wellbeing at the Hangzhou Chinese International School, China.
Mitchell’s career has specialized in International Education and he has taught and been Head of House in schools in Australia, the United Kingdom, Hong Kong and China. After completing two Masters degrees, Mitchell went on to complete a Professional Certificate in Positive Education from the University of Melbourne in order to further his passion for student and staff wellbeing. Mitchell is a qualified mindfulness teacher trained by the Mindfulness in Schools Project (UK) in Paws.b and .b, thus allowing him to teach mindfulness at both primary and secondary levels. He has also completed an MBSR course.
In his roles as Head of House and Director of Student Life and Wellbeing, Mitchell has led the implementation of Positive Education strategies and interventions to develop a Positive Culture in schools.
Mitchell’s innovative work and leadership in the field of Positive Education has been recognized internationally through a highly commended award at the 2016 SOS International Duty of Care Awards in Hong Kong and through having his work peer-reviewed by the European Network of Positive Psychology leading to a presentation at the European Conference of Positive Psychology in France.
Mitchell’s recent work is focused on combining, Physical Education, Careers Education and Wellbeing/Pastoral curriculum to create a more holistic approach to learning in schools. He had designed a positive education program called ‘Better Being’ that is central to every part of their boarding school experience at Hangzhou Chinese International School.
