About Su

Su Fenwick is a registered teacher and school counsellor (BA, counselling) with 40 years of experience across primary and secondary schools in the state, private and international sectors in New Zealand and Hong Kong.

Su currently works as a counsellor and team leader in an International School where she is a member of school’s Positive Education Steering Committee. As part of the leadership team, Su has supported the roll-out of positive education across the school from training staff to embedding practices and cultural change across a five-year journey.

As well as working within her current school, Su consults with and supports other schools in developing Positive Education. In her role as a consultant over the past 15 years Su has assisted schools to establish counselling services and programmes within schools and has run workshops and group facilitation on positive education to schools and counsellor associations. Concurrent to her work in schools, Su continues to work in private practice where she infuses a strength-based approach into her work with children, adolescents and adults.

Having been the Chair of the Board of Trustees, Mount Roskill Primary, for 8 years, Su has a high-level understanding of the organisational and leadership elements required to create successful schools. In her counselling role at school, Su works closely with children and parents in tailoring support. Su has a unique blend of professional and personal experience that is highly regarded by all. She is an empathetic leader who inspires change and hope.

 
Su continues to be an asset to the Chinese International School community. Her thorough, thoughtful and reflective contributions to the development of our Positive Education initiative are a clear example of her professionalism and her commitment to to this initiative. Su promotes mindfulness in all of us and helps us center our thoughts and ideas, allowing us to continue to move forward and grow.
Su has the trust and respect of students, parents and colleagues. She is a sounding board for many as her door is always open and her wisdom often sought. Su is always willing to take on new challenges to help our school community flourish and is ever mindful of the need to keep students at the center of all decisions.
